| Objectives: To understand that our food is produced by farmers & is then processed, transported & retailed in different ways. | |
| Methodology: Pupils see stages in the production of cheese by first visiting a dairy farm & then seeing how the milk is processed into various cheeses & later sold in a farm shop. They also have an opportunity to test the quality & temperature of the milk & cheese at various stages. In the farm shop pupils look at the country of origin of fruit & vegetables & plot these on a world map. Food miles are discussed. | |
| Key Words: Dairy, milking parlour, process, production, retail, bacteria, food miles, global warming, country of origin, organic, non organic. | |
| Skills & Concepts: Our food comes from many different areas & we can make choices about what we buy. Materials can change e.g. from liquids to solids. Animals need respect & care, using a thermometer & recording temperatures. | |
