| Objectives: To understand that organisms respond to the amount of light that they receive & that they have specific light demands to be successful. The variety & vigour of plants improve as the amount of light increases. Aspect influences plant growth. Some plants are more successful at adapting to light conditions than others. | |
| Methodology: By using quadrats the most common or dominant plants can be found for each habitat. These are recorded & may be related to light conditions e.g. on each side of a hedgerow. Tree height & circumference are measured to see if these vary according to the amount of light. | |
| Key Words: Field margins, aspect, photosynthesis, shade, arable, pasture, aquatic, comparison, adaptation. | |
| Skills & Concepts: Observation, comparisons, response of plants to growing conditions. Some plants are better than others at adapting. All plants need light in order to make food,(photosynthesis) recording measurements & making simple classifications. | |
