| Objectives: To understand the position of the farmhouse in relation to its surroundings. The farm can be mapped using a variety of skills. Maps are always drawn from a bird’s eye view. Comparisons can be made between a rural and an urban area. | |
| Methodology: The farmhouse is used as a central point for the map & 5 areas are plotted on it making sure that they are the right direction & approximate distance from the house. Map skills are introduced such as keys, use of colour & symbols. | |
| Key Words: Ordnance Survey, scale, key, symbols, bird’s eye view, compass, grid lines, urban, rural, hamlet, contrast, landuse. | |
| Skills & Concepts: Observation, drawing from observation, use of compasses, spatial skills, working within a group, identifying similarities & differences. | |
