| Objectives: To understand that plants have certain needs for their growth & not all plants will grow in every habitat. The diversity & vigour of plants depends on optimum conditions of light, warmth & moisture. | |
| Methodology: By looking at the type & range of plants growing in different areas (habitats) of the farm it is possible to classify them accordingly. Pupils learn how to use quadrats & how to measure the height & circumference of trees. | |
| Key Words: Nutrition, adaptation, shade loving, sun loving, competition, ‘weeds’, conservation, fertiliser, insecticides, fungicides, weed killer, aquatic, oxygenating, marginal plants. | |
| Skills & Concepts: Working in a group, recognising plants from a key/picture, drawing the parts of a plant, making comparisons between habitats & the plants that grow in them, recognising that some plants can adapt to several habitats. | |
